What Will You Do With Jesus?

The question that stands above all others in our lives is this: "What will you do with the man called Jesus?" First asked by Pilate over 2,000 years ago, this question remains just as urgent and life-altering today. It is not a question of intellectual curiosity but one of deep personal significance. Every one of us must answer it.

Why do we often miss what's right in front of us? Just like the disciples, who repeatedly heard Jesus predict His death and resurrection but still didn’t fully understand, we too can miss the truth even when it is clearly presented to us. The disciples had been told time and time again, yet when the tomb was found empty, they were confused and filled with fear. Even after hearing the words, they struggled to comprehend the reality of what had happened.

Mary Magdalene's journey is one that resonates with so many of us. She was the first to encounter the empty tomb, yet her first thought was that someone had stolen the body of Jesus. She even met angels there, and still, her heart couldn’t fully grasp what had taken place. It wasn't until Jesus called her by name, a personal invitation, that everything changed for her. That moment transformed her grief and doubt into unwavering faith.

There are key elements in this story that we must not overlook. The folded head cloth is significant, possibly signifying that Jesus was not finished and that He would return. The angels were not there to comfort Mary but to simply reveal the truth. And then, of course, Jesus Himself appeared, calling Mary by name. It was in that personal encounter that Mary’s eyes were opened to the truth that had always been right before her.

The resurrection is not just a story we retell; it is a historical reality supported by evidence. Over 500 eyewitnesses saw the risen Jesus. The disciples, who were once hiding in fear, were transformed into bold proclaimers of Christ. They were so certain of His resurrection that they were willing to give their lives for it. These weren’t just stories handed down through generations; they were testimonies of people whose lives were radically changed by a living Savior.

What made the difference for the disciples? It wasn’t a belief in a philosophy or an idea. It was a personal encounter with the risen Christ. Their courage came not from an intellectual belief but from knowing Jesus had conquered death. They knew Him personally, and that knowledge fueled their mission and their boldness.

So, what about you? Have you encountered the risen Christ, or is your faith just based on what you’ve heard from others? Is your relationship with Jesus personal, or have you been content with the story alone? The question Pilate asked all those years ago is one we each must answer: "What will you do with Jesus?"

Your answer to this question will determine not just your eternal destiny, but your daily life. Don’t settle for knowing about Jesus, take the next step to knowing Him personally. The resurrection is not just an event to be celebrated once a year; it is a reality that calls for a response from each of us. What will you do with Jesus today?

Blessings,

Pastor John
