Own the Vision: Discover, Deepen, Share

As I write this today, I can’t help but feel excited about where God is leading us. We’re kicking off a new sermon series called "Own the Vision," and it’s something that’s been stirring in our hearts for a while. This is all about us, as a church, walking together under the vision God has given us—helping all people discover and deepen their relationship with Jesus, and then sharing His love everywhere we go.

This isn’t just another series. It’s deeply connected to what we’ve been talking about with “Make a Difference.” Our mission here at Heritage is about making an impact—personally, as a church family, and in our community. To do that, we have to unite under one vision.

Why Do We Need a Vision?

I love how Proverbs 29:18 puts it: "Where there is no vision, the people perish." It’s a reminder that we can’t just wander through life without direction. Our vision here at Heritage is simple and clear:

Helping all people discover, deepen, and share their relationship with Jesus.

It’s a reflection of the Great Commission, where Jesus calls us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).

I remember as a kid, I once scored a basket for the wrong team during a basketball game because I was so focused on the wrong goal. It was embarrassing, but it taught me something—if we’re not united, focused, and aiming at the right goal, we can end up working against ourselves, even when we mean well. That’s why having a clear, unified vision is so important, not just for our church but for each of us individually.

Discovering Jesus

The first part of our vision is helping people Discover Jesus. I’m talking about those moments when someone’s eyes are opened to His love for the first time. It’s powerful. Whether it’s through a conversation, an invitation to church, or simply living out our faith, we are called to help people meet Jesus.

At Heritage, everything we do points back to this—our children’s ministry, youth programs, and adult classes are all focused on leading people to that moment of discovery. And we’re just getting started.

Deepening Our Relationship with Jesus

But it doesn’t stop at discovery. Once someone meets Jesus, the next step is to deepen that relationship. I know in my own life, the more I’ve walked with Jesus, the more I realize there’s always more to learn and experience with Him. Growing in faith isn’t just about gaining knowledge; it’s about truly knowing Him.

At Heritage, we have so many ways to help you deepen your faith—whether it's through small groups, Bible studies, or just spending intentional time in prayer and worship. There’s something special about walking this journey together.

Sharing Jesus' Love

And then there’s sharing His love. We can’t keep the joy, the peace, and the hope we have to ourselves. Jesus calls us to share it—to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world. Whether it’s serving our community, showing kindness to a neighbor, or participating in one of our outreach projects, there are endless opportunities to make His love known.

Living the Vision

So here’s my challenge to you: take ownership of this vision. Reflect on your life. What are you living for? Are your goals aligned with God’s vision for your life and for our church? This isn’t just about Heritage Church; it’s about all of us, individually and together, living out this vision every day.

Let me leave you with a few questions to think about:

1. Who in your life can you help discover Jesus?

2. How can you go deeper in your walk with Him this week?

3. What’s one way you can share Jesus’ love with someone today?

This week, I encourage you to write down your own personal vision for your life. Compare it with the vision we’re talking about here at Heritage. See where they align, and where you might need to adjust. Then, take one small step this week—help someone discover Jesus, spend time deepening your faith, or share His love in a practical way.

At the end of the day, we’re not just talking about a vision on paper. This is about action—living it out every day. Let’s come together as a church, own this vision, and make a difference in our community and beyond. Let’s discover, deepen, and share the life-changing love of Jesus.
